Career conversation is wide-ranging

The first official meeting of our Career Management Roundtable attracted FEI Kansas City members who are looking for positions – and members in jobs who are considering a change. Lively discussion around a conference table at Parker & Lynch ranged from LinkedIn and other social media, to how best to approach a company when you hear of an open position, to tips for printing business cards, to age and geography as potential factors influencing hiring decisions for financial executives.

Five of the many pointers on LinkedIn that Katie Keller of Parker & Lynch presented: Tell your story on LinkedIn, rather than cutting and pasting your CV; use attention-grabbing words for your tagline to show your professional skills; present a professional you in your profile picture; give a brief readable summary to show how you add value; and use your privacy settings to ?Let recruiters know you?re open to?opportunities.? Use LinkedIn?to stand out…let them know the value you add to their work, and that you want to join in that effort.

Regular meetings of the Career Management Roundtable are being planned for the 2017-18 program year – watch the ?Events? calendar on this website.
