KC Businesses Engaging the Community

Companies in Kansas City are engaging the community in many ways, supporting civic and charitable causes in addition to providing products and services to customers, Kansas City Mayor Sly James told members and guests at the chapter?s FEI Giving Back event on October 12.

Supporting a cause is not just about giving money, the mayor said. Executives can serve on boards or volunteer their time and expertise in other ways. ?Every not-for-profit I know needs something, so you can find a way to help,? he said.

Mayor James cited a range of public and nonprofit partnerships in Kansas City, including Turn the Page KC to raise every child?s reading proficiency to grade level by third grade; the Family Conservancy?s Talk, Read, Play program; the Kansas City No Violence Alliance?(KC NoVA); the Urban Youth Baseball Academy with Major League Baseball, preparing to break ground in Kansas City; and the Mayor?s Christmas Tree fund-raising drive. He urged financial executives to engage with charities and to support civic involvement through our businesses.
